Wladimir Yordanoff, career successes from Virginia Woolf at OSS 117

His smile was that of a good man. In the theater, his talent was awarded the Molière 2016 for best actor for his impeccable interpretation in the play by Edward Albee, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? directed by his friend Alain Françon. This trophy came to salute a remarkable career on the stage which had seen him play the greatest authors of the repertoire such as Shakespeare, Brecht, Strindberg and of course Racine and Molière.

His ability to play tragic or comic roles indifferently has also been used by cinema and the small screen. We will remember that Cédric Klapisch made him a perfect Philippe Ménard in an Air de famille in 1996. And it is no coincidence that the film is based on the play of the same name, directed by Agnès Jaoui and Jean -Pierre Bacri. And like a miracle the corrosive humor, always tinged with finesse, of the two authors corresponded almost exactly to his deceptively good-natured playing.

The qualities of this indispensable supporting role follow one another after Un resemblance de famille. He will work again with Agnès Jaoui in Le Goût des autres in 2002. Throughout his career, he has alternated between comedies and dramas. Onteniente will have him play in Three Zeros. More recently, in 2019, Roman Polanski chose him to play General Auguste Mercier in J’accuse.

Like the last pirouette of a mountebank passionate about his art, Wladimir Yordanoff will make us laugh and smile one last time, in a posthumous work: he plays the character of Armand Lesignac in OSS 117: Red alert in black Africa whose release is scheduled for 2021, Wladimir Yordanoff will be showing again … for our greatest pleasure.
