WhatsApp Hide Archived Chats

WhatsApp has added a new option to manage group chat threads by keeping chats archived and hidden even when new messages are sent to the group.

Archiving across the platform allows you to organize your private messages, prioritizing important conversations. Your archived conversations will now remain archived and muted, but you can change them back.

Users have always been able to archive chats, but now you won’t receive notifications about new messages for those chats you’ve archived.

Basically, this allows you to hide them from view, and you can check them in your archive, and reactivate them whenever you like.

annoying group

“If you have an annoying group that is cluttering your inbox, you can use the new archive to keep your active thread out of your inbox with access to it whenever you want,” said Will Cathcart, head of WhatsApp.

The platform has been experimenting with its archive options over the past couple of years, with this feature actually being tested as “vacation mode” back in 2019.

Many users have expressed frustration that archived conversations reappear in their inbox whenever a new message is sent.

“We know that not everything should always be there in front of you,” the platform said. We want to make sure we remain a private and safe place, where you can talk to the people who are most important to you while being in control of your messages.”

Archived chats

Separately, you may soon be able to easily transfer WhatsApp chats from iOS to Android using a data recovery tool.

Google Data Recovery is the standard Android tool for transferring data from one device to another.

And despite the multi-device support that was recently introduced in a beta version of the app, the limitations of only one smartphone remain, which means there is no easy way to transfer platform messages from iPhone to Android.

However, the data recovery tool in the in-built Android transfer app is poised to get the ability to do just that.
