Zain Telecom has won an honor from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, in recognition of the series of efforts and initiatives it launched and supported, within the framework of its strategic partnership with UNHCR over the past years, to activate the role of the private sector in supporting various humanitarian issues.
The Head of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Kuwait, Samer Haddadin, honored the CEO of Relations and Communications at Zain Kuwait, Walid Al-Khashti, on the sidelines of the dinner party that was held at the headquarters of the Arab Media Forum, on the occasion of the end of his presidency, and to welcome the new head of the UNHCR office, Nasreen. Rabiean.
During the honoring, Haddadin expressed UNHCR’s thanks and appreciation for the tireless efforts made by Zain in the success of various humanitarian initiatives and programs to support refugee issues in the region.
For its part, Zain expressed its pride in being one of the first Kuwaiti private sector companies to establish a strategic partnership with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, after signing a memorandum of understanding with its office in Kuwait in 2016, to discuss the best ways in which cooperation can contribute to the Improving the living and social conditions of the refugees, as the two parties agreed to consult each other on an ongoing basis to provide support and assistance to refugees and all those whom UNHCR provides assistance to.
Zain stressed that it believes in the vital and effective role of the private sector in supporting public sector institutions and international organizations, such as the United Nations, the United Nations and the High Commissioner for Refugees, to alleviate the suffering of refugees around the world, indicating that it has adopted and launched many projects and initiatives over the years. in line with the requirements and objectives of the Commission.
Zain’s most prominent contributions to UNHCR support include the “#Zain_WithRefugees” campaign, field visits to refugee camps, electronic donation campaigns, and strategic partnerships with the most prominent local and international organizations concerned with refugee affairs, among others.
At the beginning of 2017, Zain launched an official electronic portal to provide an opportunity for those wishing to donate in favor of its humanitarian campaign “#Zain_With_Refugees”, in cooperation with the UNHCR, which aimed to improve the living conditions of thousands of refugees in the region who suffer from difficult conditions and living conditions, with the approaching winter cold. During the cold season, donations were raised to secure seasonal cash assistance, winter clothes, heating stoves and other winter essentials families need.
