From Paris to Marseille and from Lille to Bordeaux, tens of thousands of opponents of all stripes of the sanitary pass demonstrated for the fifth Saturday in a row “For the freedom to choose”.
More than 200 events were scheduled this weekend across the country, a few days after the generalization of the health pass in most public places. Faced with this generalization of the device, validated by the Constitutional Council, the demonstrators denounce an obstacle to their “freedom” or a “lack of perspective” on vaccines.
Outside Paris, the most important processions were expected in the South, where Toulon, Montpellier, Nice, Marseille or Perpignan have emerged as major centers of dispute. In Lille, 2,650 demonstrators, according to the prefecture, led by many “Yellow vests”, walked through the city center.
In Paris, the two main parades announced began pounding the pavement behind a wide range of slogans such as “Free France” Where “Stop coronafolie”, “Yes to the freedom to choose” or “Take back your Macron pass and get out”. In the parades, protesters express their concern about a hypothetical obligation to vaccinate children to go to school.
Why do some caregivers refuse vaccination?
Across the country, they were just over 237,000 protesters last week, according to the Interior Ministry, more than double the size of the movement’s beginnings in mid-July. The authorities expected a stronger mobilization this weekend, of the order of 250,000.
The militant collective Le Nombre Jaune, which publishes a city-by-city count on Facebook, estimated the number of participants at 415,000. “Minimum” last Saturday.
