This is the level of French public debt compared to GDP which should be reached in 2020, according to the Ministry of the Economy and Finance. This new estimate takes into account the aid that will be released to deal with the reconfinement. These additional expenses will amount to 15 billion euros for the month of November alone. They will be added to the 470 billion euros mobilized since March (support for short-time working, solidarity funds, guaranteed loans, etc.).
Berlin’s new airport finally inaugurated
Berlin’s new international airport was put into operation on Saturday, October 31, nine years late. No big party was planned, due to the health situation but also to the black series that hit this great project resulting from reunification: failures, poor workmanship, bankruptcies, resounding resignations, etc. Willy-Brandt Airport (BER), whose construction began in 2006, should have opened in 2011. The inauguration takes place in a more than gloomy context due to the health crisis. In November, only 20% of normal flight capacity is planned.
Rise in gas prices
Engie’s regulated tariffs excluding tax will increase by 1.6% on 1er November (0.4% for households which use it for cooking; 0.9% for those which use it for cooking and hot water; 1.7% for those which heat with gas). This new increase comes as regulated gas tariffs will disappear under the Energy and Climate Law adopted in 2019. Engie has stopped marketing new regulated sales tariffs (TRV) contracts since November 2019.
