These days, the Council of Saudi Chambers is conducting consultations with a team from the United Nations on the role of the Council as an umbrella for the business sector in the Kingdom in promoting and enabling the participation of the Saudi private sector in implementing the United Nations agenda for sustainable development through the United Nations Global Compact initiative, which is the largest voluntary initiative aimed at promoting social responsibility. For companies, and includes more than 12 thousand members of business enterprises and organizations from 170 countries around the world.
This cooperation comes in line with the objectives of the Council of Saudi Chambers in building strategic partnerships and alliances with international entities and organizations that enhance the Kingdom’s economic position and its role at the global level as an influential and effective force in comprehensive economic development from an environmental and social point of view, and to confirm the active role of the Saudi private sector in implementing the global agenda. For sustainable development.
In this context, a workshop was held between officials in the Council and the United Nations to discuss the desired role of the Council to push private sector companies in the Kingdom to join the Global Compact initiative and align their commercial and operational strategies and operations with (10) global principles related to human rights, labor, the environment and combating corruption, and take action Which promotes societal goals and the implementation of sustainable development goals that intersect in many of its axes with the goals of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.
Through this cooperation, the Council will work to harness the efforts of experts and specialists in the United Nations to enable Saudi companies to engage in this global initiative, improve the level of sustainability and social responsibility of these companies, increase awareness and education efforts on its importance and its impact on commercial activities, the environment and society, and make use of the expertise of the United Nations and companies.
