“What happens when a soul that doesn’t want to die is stuck with a soul that doesn’t want to live?”, asks director Pete Docter. In Drunk, on the Disney + platform on December 25 for lack of open cinemas, it is about the shadow of the father and the weight of filiation. Joe Gardner, a black New York musician, does not have the success of his pianist father. He survives by giving music lessons to poorly motivated college students. When he lands a concert with the star quartet Dorothea Williams, to the chagrin of his mum who prefers job security to the life of an artist, he is unlucky to die falling into a manhole cover. He ends up in a fantastic world, the Great Before, a sort of purgatory with flashy colors where the contenders for the Great After take part in Meetings on oneself.
