Soon a prequel to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with Tom Holland or Timothée Chalamet

Sixteen years after the film adaptation of the work of Roald Dahl by Tim Burton, the director Paul King decided to take an interest in the youth of the eccentric tycoon, Willy Wonka. This adventure should be released in 2023.

In 2005 the crazy adventures of Charlie Bucket, alias Freddie Highmore, in the chocolate factory of Willy Wonka, alias Johnny Depp, melted the world box office with happiness. The film had brought in 500 million euros in revenue for producers. Today, sixteen years later, an indiscretion of Hollywood Reporter reveals that a prequel, whose scenario would return to the youthful career of the eccentric boss of the chocolate factory, could soon see the light of day.

This film project seems already very advanced since a title has been found, Wonka, and that the release date has already been set for March 17, 2023. It’s director Paul King (Paddington and its sequels) who will direct the film and will be responsible for writing a screenplay that will have as a theme the young years of Willy Wonka.

Timothée Chalamet or Tom Holland?

Who will have the heavy task of replacing Johnny Depp who was extraordinary extravagance in the feature film by Jim Burton. On the web already rustle the names of actors suggested by indiscretions of Warner. For now, Tom Holland (Spiderman) and Timothée Chalamet (Call by your name) would hold the rope.

Finally, it remains to be seen whether this new reading of the work of the brilliant British writer Roald Dahl (1916-1990) will live up to the previous adaptations. That of Mel Stuart in 1971 with the brilliant Gene Wilder and especially of course that of Jim Burton with Johnny Depp who, in 2005, showed that chocolate is indeed a material from which dreams are made.
