Raya and Godzilla vs Kong join list of private big-screen movies

Faced with uncertainties about the reopening of cinemas in France, Disney and Warner Bros have opted for distribution on streaming platforms.

After Mulan and Drunk on Disney +, or Wonder Woman 1984 on HBO Max, the list of movies to be released on streaming platforms continues to grow. This time it’s the last Disney, Raya and the last dragon and the Warner Bros blockbuster, Godzilla vs. Kong, which will be released directly on the small screen in France. For Raya and the last dragon, Disney has announced that the film will be released online for all Disney + platform subscribers, at no additional cost, on June 4. Already released last March in the United States, the animated film directed by Don Hall and Carlos Lopez Estrada takes place in a fantasy universe inspired by Southeast Asia. Raya, a princess, must manage to find the last dragon who can reunite the different kingdoms and thus restore peace.

As for Godzilla vs Kong, the feature film is already being broadcast in several Asian countries, then simultaneously in theaters and on HBO Max in the United States on March 31. If the release was scheduled for May 19 in France, the film will finally be available on April 22, only online, on several platforms such as Apple TV, Prime Video or even Youtube. Directed by Adam Wingard, (Death Note, Blair Witch) the film takes place five years after the events of Godzilla 2: King of the Monsters.

Godzilla wants to turn against humanity and destroy everything in its path. The Monarch Organization then appeals to Kong, their last hope to defeat the raging monster. A blockbuster estimated at nearly $ 200 million, which has already ranked number 3 at the 2021 box office, starring actors such as Kyle Chandler (King Kong, Zero Dark Thirty) and Millie Bobby Brown (Godzilla 2, Enola Holmes).

Faced with the disappointment of many French fans, the Warner Bros. clarified that it did not exclude a release of Godzilla vs Kong in theaters, depending on the date of reopening of French cinemas.

Warner had also specified at the end of 2020 that all of its films scheduled for 2021 would be released simultaneously in theaters and on its HBO Max platform, and the production company has indicated in recent days that the return to normal is to be expected for 2022.
