For this new feature film on motherhood, the Spanish filmmaker has recalled several of his favorite actresses including Rossy de Palma and Julieta Serrano.
After a project in the language of Shakespeare with Tilda Swinton, Perdro Almodovar returns to that of Cervantes and finds for the occasion a familiar cast. The ten weeks of filming have just been completed, the Spanish filmmaker has just unveiled the first images and a short making-of of Madres Paralelas, his next feature film with Penélope Cruz, Julieta Serrano, Rossy de Palma, Aitana Sánchez-Gijón, Milena Smit and Israel Elejalde.
As part of a theme dear to the 71-year-old director, the film will have as heroines two mothers who gave birth on the same day. “I am talking about the importance of ancestors and descendants. According to him, this new feature film “will be an intense drama“. No release date has yet been brought forward, but Madres Paralelas should arrive on our screens in 2022.
The filmmaker’s latest film, Pain and Glory, had been awarded the prize for male interpretation for Antonio Banderas at Cannes. In the meantime, the director has offered the services of Tilda Swinton to direct The Human Voice, a short film inspired by the eponymous play by Jean Cocteau. Screened at several festivals, this critically acclaimed free adaptation was released in Spain on October 20, 2020.
