Optional health insurance for individuals outside the “compulsory” system


The Health Insurance Council revealed the imminent launch of an initiative to provide optional health insurance to individuals outside the compulsory insurance system, which includes expatriate workers and Saudis working in the private sector and their families, who number 11 million at the present time. And participate in the health insurance umbrella, 4500 service providers from hospitals, clinics and health centers in various specialties and more than 30 insurance and reinsurance companies. On the other hand, the Council indicated that the visitors’ insurance policy covers emergency cases with a value of 100,000 riyals, of which 5,000 riyals are the expenses of pregnancy and emergency childbirth. The size of the health insurance sector reached 20 billion riyals last year, which constituted 55% of the total market size, while the total number of people covered by health care under the umbrella of compulsory health insurance reached 11 million individuals. The Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) said that it is working on a number of development initiatives and structural reforms, in order to develop the insurance sector and achieve alignment with the goals of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030. For individuals, in addition to creating new job opportunities for citizens and raising their professional and technical skills, and among the mechanisms he worked on was the adoption of many procedures, controls, rules and instructions necessary to organize and develop the sector.
