Mulan on Disney +: portrait of a young girl on fire

CRITICAL – The live-action version of the famous animated film gives birth to a great adventure feature film that is not devoid of humor.

Expected in March, then in July, constantly postponed because of the coronavirus, Mulan, the latest American studio is finally available in France on the Disney + platform. Much to the despair of cinema operators who planned to put it on display on December 15. The Chinese legend of Hua Mulan, a young girl who takes the place of her father to fight “Terrible invaders” has taken quite a facelift. New Zealand director Niki Caro (The Zookeeper’s Wife starring Jessica Chastain, 2017) filmed the story of the intrepid in live action and added a feminist touch to Tony Bancroft and Barry Cook’s version released in 1998.

If the nearly two-hour feature film is fairly faithful to the plot of the animated version, it is less intended for young audiences than for adolescents and adults (in the United States, it is not recommended for those under 13) .
