Allen vs Farrow retraces in four episodes the tumultuous story between Woody Allen and actress Mia Farrow and returns to the accusations of sexual abuse of their daughter Dylan Farrow.
For years, the affair between Woody Allen and Mia Farrow has divided and stirred. “When I was seven, Woody Allen took me by the hand and led me into a dark attic on the second floor of our house. He told me to lie down on my stomach (…) Then he sexually assaulted me ”, Told in 2014 Dylan Farrow, biological daughter of the actress Mia Farrow and the director Woody Allen.
Allen vs Farrow, documentary series in four episodes from February 21 on HBO, reviews the accusations of sexual abuse against the Oscar-winning filmmaker, as well as the traumas caused on the family. It traces the trials, the legal battle for custody of the children, and the relationship between Woody Allen and Soon-Yi, adopted daughter of Mia Farrow, 35 years his junior.
But the documentary promises to bring a fresh look at this affair with the many scandals, explains the magazine Variety . Thus it is based on unpublished legal documents, and on exclusive interviews with Mia Farrow, Dylan Farrow, and his brother Ronan Farrow. The directors of this project, Kirby Dick and Amy Ziering, also called in witnesses, investigators, and family friends.
The romance between Woody Allen and Mia Farrow ended in 1992, when the latter learned of the relationship between her husband and her adopted daughter Soon-Yi Prévin. At the same time, Dylan Farrow, the couple’s biological daughter, accuses her father of sexual assault at the age of 7. Here begins an unprecedented legal battle between the two spouses, arguing in particular for the custody of their children.
If Woody Allen has always denied the facts, the documentary attempts to highlight the impact of these allegations on his reputation as well as on his work. Dropped by Amazon in 2019 for the distribution of his film A rainy day in New York , abandoned by his actors, some of whom will refuse to touch their stamp like Timothée Chalamet, Woody Allen published his memoirs last year with Apropos of Nothing, in order to cleanse his honor of the facts with which he is accused.
At the time of their daughter’s accusations, two judicial inquiries had however exonerated the Oscar-winning director, notifying that “ Dylan was not sexually abused by Woody Allen “. In his book, he settles his accounts with his ex-wife, whom he accuses of abuse of his children and of manipulation of their daughter Dylan, driven by a devastating grudge.
