On Saturday, South Korean police arrested a man after keeping his mother’s body in his home for 3 decades after her death.
The 80-year-old son, who lives in the Dongdaemun district of eastern Seoul, admitted that he kept what he claims is the body of his mother, who died about 30 years ago, in a rubber barrel on the roof of a multi-storey housing unit, according to Dongdaemun Police Station, according to the report. To the Korean agency “Yonhap”.
Reportedly, the man admitted to investigators that he decided to keep the body of his deceased mother for 30 years due to his deep love for her.
Police investigations began on February 10, when an employee of a cleaning company found a dead body believed to have been neglected for a long time in a rubber barrel above the 3-storey building.
Reportedly, the corpse was wrapped in white tissue, which had turned into an organic substance resembling wax.
Investigators believe the man’s statement is close to the truth, but nevertheless they asked the National Forensic Service to perform a DNA test to confirm the relationship between the mother and her son.
Police are studying the possibility of applying the charge of giving up the body in the case, despite the expiration of the seven-year statute of limitations.
The multi-storey property is reportedly owned by the family of the man who kept his mother’s body for so long.
