Chemical and agricultural materials raise wholesale prices 12%


The wholesale price index for the month of August increased by 12% compared to the same month last year, due to an increase in the prices of equipment, chemicals, agricultural and animal products.

This percentage is slightly higher than the average in the previous month, July 2021 AD; Where it was 11.9%, and the rise in the index came mainly from the rise in the prices of other transportable commodities by 20.4%, due to its weight in the index. It is also due to the increase in the prices of basic chemicals by 86%, and refined petroleum products by 24.8%.

The metal products, machinery and equipment section also recorded an increase of 10.2% as a result of the increase in the prices of base metals by 32.1%, the prices of machinery and electrical appliances increased by 9.7%, and the agricultural and fishing products section recorded a rise of 4.5%, affected by the increase in the prices of live animals and animal products by 17.4%. The prices of agricultural products increased by 0.7%, and the door of food, beverages, tobacco and textiles increased by 1.1% as a result of the increase in the prices of meat, fish, fruits, vegetables, oils and fats by 4.4%, and the raw materials and minerals sector witnessed a rise by 7.6%, as a result of the increase in the prices of stones and sand by 7.6%.

According to the data published by the General Authority for Statistics, the wholesale price index rose by 0.7% on a monthly basis in August 2021, mainly affected by the increase in the prices of metal products, machinery and equipment by 0.8% from the previous month; While the section of other transportable goods increased by 0.8% as a result of an increase in the prices of basic chemicals by 5%, and the section of food products, beverages, tobacco and textiles increased by 0.4% as a result of the increase in the prices of grain mills, starch and other food products by 0.5%. The Ores and Minerals section increased by 1.1%, while the Agricultural and Fishing Products section recorded a decrease of 0.2%.
