A work made of “Rubik’s” cubes showing the Dalai Lama, signed by Invader, sold for more than 468,000 euros (about 555,000 dollars), including expenses, without breaking the world record achieved by the famous street artist in previous works with these cubes, according to what she announced. Arcurial, which organized the auction.
In December, Invader’s work entitled “Rubik’s Space” was sold for 492,600 euros “inclusive of expenses”, a new world record for a work made of Rubik’s cubes for this artist, exceeding his previous record, which he achieved with “Rubik Mona Lisa” in February 2020, which reached 480 thousand and 200 euros.
Since 2004, Invader’s work has taken a new turn with the emergence of the “Rubik” style, that is, a group of works made of Rubik’s cubes that achieved great international fame, especially in the eighties of the twentieth century.
Invader completed the painting “Rubik the Dalai Lama” in 2008. The work consists of 225 Rubik’s cubes, and its estimated value ranged between 300,000 and 400,000 euros.
Invader re-presented famous works of famous painters, including Edouard Manet and Gustave Courbet, in the form of Rubik’s cubes. Since 2005, several exhibitions of him have been held around the world.
