Weqaya Public Health Authority stated that drowning is the third global cause of death due to unintentional injuries, as drowning accidents in the Kingdom are the second cause of death for children under 15 years of age, and deaths of young children (less than five years old) formed the largest proportion of the total These deaths are equivalent to (56%).
The authority issued the preventive guide for safety in swimming pools, and the manual divided the preventive measures for the safe operation of public swimming pools into four main chapters:
First – creation and design:
Which includes requirements for barriers, signs and floors to prevent accidents of tripping, slipping and falling, and conditions for lighting, water supply, water recycling and treatment system, and others.
Second – Operation and Supervision:
It includes many requirements, including determining the location of pool alarms, fire alarms, emergency exits, exit routes, and measures to be taken upon hearing the alarm.
And knowing the use of emergency equipment, periodic maintenance schedules, and determining the temperature of swimming pools to be less than 40 degrees Celsius, and with regard to supervision, an appropriate number of lifeguards must be specified and with certain requirements, including that he has a valid and internationally recognized swimming pool rescue guard certificate proving that he has trained on the rules And the principles of supervision, customer service, accident prevention, water rescue, and so on.
The third section is also concerned with emergency and first aid, and the fourth and final section deals with preventive instructions.
