Net foreign direct investment in the Saudi economy increased by 20.25% during 2020 year-on-year, to reach $ 5.49 billion, compared to net flows of $ 4.56 billion in 2019. The net inflows of foreign direct investment during the fourth quarter of 2020 increased by 79.8% on an annual basis, registering $ 1.87 billion, compared to net inflows in the same quarter of 2019, which amounted to $ 1.04 billion. The statistic showed, the cumulative net foreign direct investment growth of 2.32% by the end of 2020 year on year. The cumulative net foreign direct investment inside the economy reached 906.98 billion riyals at the end of the fourth quarter of 2020 AD, compared to 886.41 billion riyals at the end of the same quarter of 2019. Cumulative net foreign direct investment inside the economy increased by 0.78% in the last 3 months of 2020 AD, with a value of 7.02 billion riyals higher than its value at the end of the third quarter of the same year of 899.97 billion riyals. Foreign investments in Saudi Arabia include direct investment within the economy, portfolio investments – including equity, investment fund shares, and debt securities – in addition to other investments. It includes loans, currency, deposits and other accounts payable. Total foreign investments reached 2.006 trillion riyals at the end of 2020, compared to 1.833 trillion riyals at the end of 2019.
